When I think back to my children being young I certainly have some regret. I wish I had been more light-hearted at times.  Don’t sweat the small stuff, they say.

I wish I had been able to heal my heart sooner.  Hurt people, hurt people and I have been guilty of that.

I wish I had trusted my gut.  I would have made different decisions.

I wish I had understood the wisdom of Confucius.

‘We have two lives; the second begins when we realise we only have one.’

    Living Life without Regrets

The covid pandemic offered me a period of inner reflection. At that point I realised that I might blink and be in the next group of colleagues retiring from my workplace.  It filled me with fear, deep disappointment and then a fire in my belly.

I resigned from the social work position I had held for 19 years. Ultimately I did want to live my life without regret.

Creativity Puts Fire in the Belly!

Inevitably it took time to deinstitutionalise myself.  I got creative.  I set up a dance group.  I returned to writing poetry and prose.  I found places to perform as a creative.  I designed a beautiful resource for couples – The Little Book of Promises of Love.  And a pack of thirteen Contemplation Cards to use with a journal.  I wrote a little book for my grandchildren called The Spider Surprise.

For the first time in a long time, I felt very alive.

Choosing Celebrancy as a New Direction

Out of this re-awakening I decided to train as a Celebrant with the Academy of Modern Celebrancy.   Certainly, I am finding this work rewarding.  It is humbling to be part of milestone events in other people’s lives.  It is a privilege to hear other’s stories.  It is a joy to create a Ceremony that reflects someone’s unique story.

I wish you a life lived without regret.

    Books that make you think

It has been very interesting to read Bronnie Ware’s The Top Five Regrets of the Dying.  I see many of my own thoughts reflected in the pages of her book.  Copywrite, of course, prevents listing those regrets so, I thought I would write about my own list as I reflect on my life so far.
