Perhaps you’re wondering what a Celebrant led wedding will be like for your wedding. It means you will have more choice. You have the freedom to choose an unlicensed venue, especially when the ceremony is the most important element for you. When you know it is simple enough to go to the registry office to complete the administration, then you open yourself up to loads more celebrants who are not solemnisers (that’s the word for those who can sign your marriage cert). There are strict and high standards for the legalities of marriage. It is a legally binding contract so must be done properly. But it is only a tiny part of your wedding day. When you look back on your day, are you really going to say, ‘we had such a gorgeous pen to sign the register, it’s so memorable..?’ When a couple is able to separate out the administration of marriage from the celebration of ceremony, they then have way more choice for their Celebrant. You want everyone to remember how special your ceremony made them feel.

Couples who choose an Independent Celebrant can have their ceremony on any day of the week and at any time of the day or night. A registrar cannot be as flexible because they are employed as a public servant. Wouldn’t it be gorgeous to be like the Owl and the Pussycat and have your ceremony under the light of the moon and the twinkling stars? That’s not going to be an option when you limit yourselves to bundling the legal admin in with the ceremony. Get your legals done before or after the ceremony – go with your witnesses and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Couples who choose an Independent Celebrant can include elements from different faith traditions, spiritual practices and non-traditional belief systems. Or none of the above. When I tell people I am an Independent Celebrant they often say, ‘Does that mean you’re a Humanist?’. Of course I respond, ‘No, I’m independent’. I chose to be an Independent Celebrant because I want to be inclusive of all beliefs and practices.

Imagine the freedom of being able to craft a ceremony around your beliefs, values, traditions. From angel cards, to magic wands, from kitten heels to Docs and Converse, we are all different, so your ceremony should reflect that. So, what difference will it make, choosing an Independent Celebrant? You get to create a ceremony that is truly reflective and inclusive of who you are as individuals and as a couple.
